This G-Book® downloadable e-magazine reproduces the fourth weekly issue of Midnight magazine, Vol. 1, No. 4 from September 9, 1922. Published by the early health and fitness guru Bernarr Macfadden, better known as the founder of Physical Culture magazine, Midnight began in these early issues as a tabloid-style pulp covering titillating and risque subjects, as well as dabbling in crime and mystery stories. Several of these early issues were confiscated and destroyed by police as indecent, and all these issues are very rare today. The magazine's first issue was on August 19, 1922, and just fourteen issues later it renamed itself Midnight Mysteries and turned away from the expose and scandal stories to all mysteries. Two weeks later the cover morphed to Midnight Mystery Stories, and it ceased publication after only 24 issues, in early 1923. Macfadden went on to build a magazine and newspaper empire in addition to spreading his natural health philosophy. Among his twenty or so magazines were True Story, True Detective, True Romances, Liberty, Model Airplane News, Ghost Stories, and PhotoPlay. He published about a dozen newspapers as well, the most controversial being the New York Evening Graphic. Contents of this Issue:
